Title: Conflict and Cooperation
Keywords: harmony, competition, cityscape
Description: The new buildings at the King's Cross development were deliberately designed to maintain a sense of harmony and complementarity with each other. These buildings did not seek to compete with one another and stand out (both literally and figuratively), and gave the entire place a very coherent feeling. In this collage, we tried to explore how the development might look if this was not done, and architects were given free rein to design their buildings. The result might then be individual buildings that look stunning in isolation but an area that looked messy and incoherent. Hence, we realized how disciplined design was able to evoke a powerful sense of harmony that contributed to the success of the regeneration attempt.
